Safe Passage
One of the most prominent beliefs regarding a moth's attraction to light, and the one I believe is most substantiated, involves what is called transverse orientation. Some insects navigate by flying at a constant angle relative to a light source, such as the moon. Artificial light is relatively new and even fires as light sources were drastically fewer and far between as our population was sparser and more dictated by natural cycles. Many experts believe a moth's attraction to light is its bond to the moon.
Two dappled wings are carved from a mixture of quartz, biotite (and a tiny hint of emerald). I love this wing set so much! It particularly reminds me of softy whispering moth wings, covered in dust and dappled pattern. A blooming Night Garden flower is held above, unfurling its petals to reveal a shining, guiding star.
Entirely handmade out of solid sterling silver. This piece rests on a 20" chain as shown above, which is included! It measures approximately 37mm (including bail) by 25mm at widest wingtip.
