Safe Passage
One of the most prominent beliefs regarding a moth's attraction to light, and the one I believe is most substantiated, involves what is called transverse orientation. Some insects navigate by flying at a constant angle relative to a light source, such as the moon. Artificial light is relatively new and even fires as light sources were drastically fewer and far between as our population was sparser and more dictated by natural cycles. Many experts believe a moth's attraction to light is its bond to the moon.
Two wings are carved from a green tourmaline, cradling a sharp crescent moon with additional shining celestial bodies.
Completely handmade out of solid sterling silver, resting on a split ornate band as shown. It is a size 7.
